Where can you find big yards, trees, affordable prices, retro 1950’s architecture design and some new construction, easy access to downtown, the tollway and 35, Love Field and DFW, and great restaurants? There is no coincidence that more realtors live in Midway Hollow than any neighborhood I know. We know a great neighborhood when we see one!
Midway Hollow is located west of Midway Road, south of Walnut Hill Lane, east of Marsh Lane, and north of Northwest Highway. You will not find the name Midway Hollow on any map. It was named that by the neighborhood crime watch several years ago. The neighborhood was established in the early 1950’s. Yards are typically adorned with towering oak trees on large lots. Many of the older homes have been remodeled. There are also a number of “McMansions”. Most of the new construction has tried to stay with the theme of the neighborhood. The original homes are typical 1950’s ranch homes with hardwood floors. If you like East Dallas and the L Streets in Lake Highlands, you will LOVE this neighborhood. It has the same feeling but better access to everything.
There are two parts of Midway Hollow. I like to divide between frame homes and brick homes. You will find the homes on the streets with brick homes to be nicer and more expensive. The frame homes tend (but not always) to be in the less expensive part of the neighborhood. Each home as well as each street is unique. What is common to the area is a homey feeling. You will see many people out walking their children or dogs in the mornings or evenings. People are friendly and say hello.
Most of the older homes are small. You will find many two bedroom one bath or two bath homes. There are a number of 3 bedroom homes also and some that have been remodeled to add more space.
The schools are not the best so you do not see many teenagers. There are many retired people, young families, single professionals and young professionals.
Visit some open houses, take a drive through the tree lined streets and then have lunch at Midway and Northwest Highway at Balls for one of the best burgers in town, Howard Wang’s for fabulous Chinese or sit out on the big patio at Fernando’s and enjoy a cold beer and nachos. If you want to open your pocket book a little more, there is a four star restaurant, Suze, which is incredible. To the west on Northwest highway there are numerous ethnic restaurants to delight you or head back east to Preston Center for shopping and many other restaurant choices. A foodie haven!
